Heel of the Italian boot, Puglia is the Eastern part of Italy, the less mountainous.
This area is very rich for summer activities (800 km of coasts bordered by the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea which represents a true paradise for sea and the water sports lovers), splendid panoramas, back country that remained authentic (calm and olive-trees).
Puglia conceals an artistic and historical important inheritance: Lecce with its exuberant Baroque architecture; Tarente, old important Greek colony; Bari, animated city with its splendid Roman basilica Saint Nicolas, many castles of which the stunning Castle del Monte, built under the reign of
Frederic II; and of course Alberobello, city of the "trulli", these house-huts
in stone so specific to this area. (see pictures).
The natural beauties remains such as the formidable headland of Gargano, calcareous plate sifted of caves, with jagged cliffs, the attended beaches, the small villages perched on the heights...
The kitchen of Puglia is simple and country. Attic of corn of the all Italy, it is the reign of the pastes and the bread. The well irrigated plains provide all the kinds of vegetables, the seashore provides fish, oysters...Puglia is also the first producing area of grape and olive oil of Italy. Puglia region is the promise of simple holidays within an authentic framework.
